Sharjah: Firefighters are sifting through the rubble of a burned-out house in Al Ghafya area in Sharjah to determine the cause of one of the most heart-wrenching fire tragedies in recent memory.
A mother and her two daughters died when a massive fire broke out in their shared house on Tuesday morning.
Two families lived in the house, a Sharjah Police official said.
The mother from the Comoros Islands was burned to death, while her daughters, aged 12 and 13, died of suffocation when their house went up in flames at around 11.33am, Lietunant Colonel Sami Al Naqabi, director general of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News.
Firefighters were able to rescue the other inhabitants from the burning house, Al Naqabi said.
They reached the scene of the incident in three minutes after the operation room received a call about the incident.
Colonel Ali Salem Al Khayal, Director General of Sharjah Police Central operations, and lieutenant Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, Director General of civil defence in Sharjah, attended the scene of the incident and monitored the operation.
The body of the two girls, identified as Sh.A., 12, and A.A, 13, have been moved to Al Qassimi hospital, while the body of their mother was moved to Al Kuwaiti hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
