Dubai: Around 90 per cent of companies complied with the wage protection system for labourers after the Dubai Police intervened in the cases.
Humaid Rashid Bin Deemas, Acting General Director of the Ministry of Labour revealed this at a joint press conference that followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Labour Ministry and the Dubai Police.
He said there were 48 cases of non-compliance that were brought to the attention of the police last year.
"All the governmental sectors are interlinked and with continuous cooperation the services and rights provided to the public will improve," said Bin Deemas.
"We want to show company owners that they can't escape from any violation as they will be faced by intervention from the Labour Ministry or police, or Municipality, or Economic Department," he said.
Dubai Police havefull access to the profiles of some 270,000 establishments in the UAE. "We, along with the police, tried to find many solutions for companies wanting to settle their disagreements with their workers, especially in the wake of the financial crisis," said Bin Deemas.
"We don't interfere in the rule of the Ministry of Labour nor do we enforce their punishments. We coordinate and cooperate with the ministry by offering our recommendation and assistance," said Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police.
