Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of Emirates University and HCT, yesterday approved the largest single intake of students in the history of the UAE Higher Education system.
The ceremony took place at Zayed University, when over 11,000 students were accepted for the academic year 2002-2003, marking a five per cent increase over the previous year.
About 3,972 students were admitted to the UAE University, while 635 will study at Zayed University and 6,501 at the Higher Colleges of Technology.
Sheikh Nahyan wished the students a successful year ahead, saying, "Education is the best investment, and it will provide a good return for the country. We hope our students have a good year and they will look towards President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as an example.
"Sheikh Zayed has provided education to the youth of the UAE so that they will be able to contribute to the country."
Louay Geroudi, Head of the National Admissions and Placement Office, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said higher education has largely benefited from the guidance of Sheikh Zayed.
He added: "The large number of students who have entered this year for acquiring higher education is a tribute to Sheikh Zayed and his continued support for the country's education sector."
