A memorial service will be held next week for popular writer, journalist and broadcaster Barry Jordan who died in July. Jordan was a familiar face to many as the man whose news broadcasts during the Gulf War kept viewers informed of the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait.
He lived in Dubai for over 10 years and worked as news editor at Channel 33 from 1989-97 before turning freelance and becoming a regular contributor to several publications, including Gulf News, for which he wrote a weekly motoring column.
Jordan was born in Yorkshire in the UK and spent the 1970s working for the New Zealand Broadcasting Corp before moving to London. He worked for the London Broadcasting Co for three years before moving to the BBC where he was a scriptwriter and producer for the "Newsnight" current affairs programme.
He went on to work for Channel Four News in the UK before moving to Dubai in 1989.
The keen golfer and socialite was diagnosed with cancer last May 5 and returned to the UK for treatment where he died on July 6 at age 63. He leaves a wife, two children and three stepchildren.
The memorial service will take place at 5pm on November 6 at Holy Trinity Church.
