Lured by a cool splash pigeons flock to Baniyas Square
It may be too hot for humans to sit in the midday sun, but these pigeons were willing to brave the heat as they commandeered a public bench at Baniyas Square in Deira.

The birds seem to know they'll always receive a warm welcome in the emirate, regardless of the weather.

Experts believe the success of artificial irrigation projects has prompted pigeons to flock to the city in their hundreds with the safe knowledge they'll find water.

Meanwhile, tourists and people working near Baniyas Square have taken to feeding them.

Dubai has already proved it has a soft spot for the grey and white birds, by the presence of a number of pigeon racing clubs.

Indeed, the sport has established itself firmly in the emirate after just a few years. Up to 2,500 birds are now seen at the region's major races. (200x150)25_pigeon2.jpg (200x150)
