The government and the opposition are planning intensified campaigns as the ruling alliance heads towards completing one year in office.

Publication of booklets, leaflets and posters highlighting the government's achievements is underway, while the prime minister and her cabinet colleagues are gearing up to launch a vigorous campaign to project their feats.

Khaleda is due to address the nation on Thursday. The state-owned media is also set to air special programmes marking the first anniversary.

The BNP-led alliance has also drawn up a three-day political programme to mark the occasion. Before holding a public meeting at Paltan Maidan in the city on October 12, the alliance will sponsor a two-day campaign across the country from Thursday.

The prime minister and other top leaders of the ruling coalition are scheduled to address the Paltan meeting, coalition sources said.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Awami League is compiling facts and figures to portray the 'lack of governance' since the coalition government came to power.

Its campaign aims mainly at projecting the reported persecution of opposition activists and minorities, crimes against women and children, violation of human rights, insecurity in public life, law and order situation and corruption, party sources said.

Besides public meetings, the opposition party will prepare booklets, posters, and documentaries highlighting the government's failure in various sectors.

The Awami League Presidium headed by Sheikh Hasina Wajed will meet tomorrow to review its campaign and to finalise the October 10 programme.
