The first infection control organisation in the Middle East was launched recently at 3M's Annual Infection Control seminar roadshow, held across the region.
The establishment of the organisation, which is known as the Middle Eastern Society of Infection Control (MESIC), came from the health-care industry's need to form a body that works alongside the government and health institutions to control risks of infections.
Dr Faten Salti, MESIC representative and an expert in infection control, said: "Infection control principles and practices have become a major concern for every health care practitioner in the Middle East, where relevant official policies are not yet introduced."
She added: "MESIC was established to help upgrade the existing infection control practices and protocols in the region through training courses, educational material, meetings and conference."
