Iftar to raise funds for school dropouts

DUBAI The Pakistani community in the UAE is hosting an iftar to raise funds for students who are cannot go to school because of unpaid fees.

Being organised by the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), the ‘Iftar For A Cause’ will be held at the organisation’s Oudh Metha centre this Sunday.

Around 250 people including the ambassador to the UAE, Asif Durrani, are expected to attend.

In 2015, PAD, the largest organisation of the Pakistani community in Dubai, pitched in with Dh714,000 towards the outstanding fees of 150 Pakistani school children in the UAE. This year, it has already assisted 98 students with fees totalling Dh319,000.

Beneficiaries

Dr Jameela Haq, president, Pakistan Youth Forum, affiliated with PAD, said the beneficiaries largely belong to middle or low income families whose parents have either lost jobs or suffered losses in business. “These students are our responsibility and need every bit of our support. By helping them you can stop a career from being nipped in the bud and fulfil somebody’s dream,” said the 25-year-old dental intern.

An arts and crafts exhibition will be also held during the event and all sale proceeds will go towards paying outstanding school fees.
