The second round of the Honda Youth MX Championship was held last Friday at the Al-Awir motocross complex.
A record 30 youth riders squeezed into a tightly packed paddock to compete in the four different race classes. The big surprise of the day was the appearance of the works factory BMW Enduro team who kindly turned up at the track to spectate and talk to the youth riders and pass on some valuable race and riding tips.
The leading BMW rider, John Deacon, five times British Enduro Champion, stayed on at the track to present the awards to all the youth riders on completion of the day's highly entertaining racing.
The winner of the auto Cadet class was Conor O'Kelly riding a 50cc KTM, while the auto Junior winner was Joshua Whitley on the very fast and reliable Sandstorm DB 50cc bike.
The 85cc class was again dominated by the ten-year-old Trading Enterprises sponsored youth rider Gareth Hudd.
Gareth riding a 2001 model Honda CR80R didn't put a foot wrong in either race to win both races and take a comfortable lead in the 85cc class of the UAE youth MX championship.
Danial Nillson on another new 2001 Honda 85cc is in second place and Ashaal Dabholkar on a KTM is third.
Darren Jardine riding The Black Flye/Sandstorm 125cc Honda was in fine form in the adult class and was trying extremely hard to catch the smooth riding Yamaha 125cc.
Nico Schwingenschloegel Darren had been training and practicing hard on the Sandstorm Honda recently but a fall in race one and a slight mechanical problem in race two allowed the Yamaha mounted rider to take two decisive wins and push further ahead in the lead of the 125cc youth Championship.
Sam Bontoft on a 125cc KTM, previously owned by ex Indian MX Champion Ashwin Dabholkar had two extremely good results to finish a well-deserved second place in the 125cc class with a very tough Ryan Black fighting back on his Honda 125cc after several big crashes to take third place.
The Honda Youth MX Championship is specifically designed to develop youth riders to compete in motor sport events and prepare the riders for adult competition, the championship has various classes catering for children from as young as six to youths of seventeen riding motocross bikes up to a limit of 200cc.
