HSBC Bank Middle East has won the e-Bank 2002 Online Corporate Bank Award and meBank won the e-Bank 2002 Online Retail Bank Award at a function organised by e-Bank 2002 and Institute for International Research (IIR) yesterday.

Peter Lokman, corporate and administration manager of HSBC accepted the award for the best online corporate bank, and Louis Scotto, general manager of Emirates Bank International (retail), accepted the award for the best online retail bank.

Delivering the keynote address at the e-Bank Conference, yesterday morning, Anis Al Jallaf, CEO, Emirates Bank, said that following the successful phases of face-to-face banking, tele-banking and e-banking, the banking industry is heading towards commercial-banking or c-banking.

"The process is already on, and before long, we will see all the key trade finance operations of banking like the letters of credit (LCs), letters of guarantee (LGs), being processed online. This is just the logical extension of e-banking," Al Jallaf added.
