Dubai: Following the expansion with additional 159 additional bed, the Rashid Hospital has become the largest hospital in the UAE with a total of 786 beds. The trauma care section alone attends to 600 cases per day and is all set to manage many more.
The expansion project at the hospital was inaugurated by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority (DHA), on Monday.
Dr Ebrahim Saif Al Kalban, CEO of the hospital sector at DHA, told Gulf News: “The expansion of the ICU means the previous beds have now been freed for regular patients at the hospital. The trauma care always faces the challenge of treating a large number of patients with cardiovascular disease, stroke and poly trauma following road accidents,”
Expanding the critical care section by more than 50 per cent, the hospital added a total of 66 beds for neurosurgery, medical and surgical ICU wards totally.
The third floor, on the other hand, will have 93 beds used for general surgery, specialised surgery and fractures, to name a few.
Dr Alya Mazroui, CEO of Rashid Hospital, said the facility had undergone such a drastic expansion to meet the new challenges of medical tourism. She added that there are several new specialised treatments for liver, spine, bone and bariatric surgery as part of the new expansion.
She said that high-quality technology has been added to the smart beds, including CPUs that track the status of the patient in bed to avoid cases of falling out of the bed — which is one of the indicators of excellence and quality in the hospital.
“This high-quality technology also ensures maintaining the status of the head [30 degrees] for brain stroke patients. It also ensure a straight position for spine patients and a safe and healthy position for various patients, each according to his/her condition,” she added.
