DoH has launched a new initiative under its Rewarding Exceptional Quality programme, aimed at recognising and rewarding healthcare providers that deliver high-quality care. The initiative will begin with a focus on fertility services, with plans to expand into other areas of care in the future.

The programme is part of the emirate’s ongoing efforts to raise healthcare standards and strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global healthcare destination. Through the initiative, the DoH will track and evaluate healthcare facilities based on specific performance measures. Providers who meet or exceed these goals—such as improved patient outcomes, higher safety standards, and better patient experiences—will be eligible for financial incentives.

Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said: “At the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, we are committed to raising the bar for healthcare quality in Abu Dhabi. The launch of the Rewarding Exceptional Quality programme reflects our ambition to drive meaningful improvements in clinical performance while rewarding providers that go above and beyond in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care.”

She added: “Fertility services were chosen as the starting point due to their importance to public health and the major role they play in supporting families. Abu Dhabi has already seen great progress in reproductive medicine, and this new programme will help push those efforts even further.”

Abu Dhabi has emerged as a leading hub for fertility care, offering advanced treatments like egg freezing, in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), and embryo transfer. In 2025, the DoH reported that the IVF success rate in the emirate exceeded 51 per cent, one of the highest in the world. In 2024 alone, more than 6,180 IVF cycles were performed in Abu Dhabi.

Today, the emirate is home to 14 specialised fertility centres and a strong network of healthcare professionals in women’s health. This includes more than 2,800 medical staff in obstetrics and gynaecology, among them 700 consultants and specialists, 375 midwives, and 45 facilities focused on women’s care.

The DoH stated that this value-based approach aims to shift the focus from the number of treatments provided to the quality and outcome of care. By doing so, the department hopes to encourage more providers to deliver patient-centred and effective healthcare.

The Rewarding Exceptional Quality programme marks another important step in improving healthcare services across the emirate, putting patients first and ensuring that care is delivered to the highest possible standards.

The Department of Health confirmed that additional clinical areas will be included in future phases of the programme, further supporting Abu Dhabi’s goal of becoming a model for healthcare excellence in the region and beyond.
