Shaikh Khalifa Medical City officially inaugurated its new diabetes centre on Monday.
The centre, which has more than 6,000 registered patients, provides comprehensive services including case management. It also educates patients about diabetes.
The centre's recent expansion means it can now offer services including dietary consultations, insulin pump therapy and a 96-hour continuous blood glucose monitoring facility.
About approximately 100 patients are treated at the centre daily. This number is increasing and is set to double within the next year.
The Shaikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) Diabetes Centre is staffed with eight doctors, ten nurses, four diabetes educators, two clinical dieticians, a pharmacist, a podiatrist, translators as well as clerical staff.
Clyde H. Eder, CEO of SKMC said the centre's expansion allowed the SKMC diabetes team to provide state-of-the-art care for diabetes.
"Our programme has an emphasis on educating the patient and their families about diabetes and its related complications, while encouraging patients to take an active role in their diabetes management."
