Dubai: Diet pills may seem like a quick way to help shed off the weight.
But did you know that by taking these 11 dietary supplements, it can lead to unwanted side effects and drastically raise your blood pressure.
Dubai Municipality on Thursday warned residents that authorities have updated their list of banned health supplements, and has added more brand names that pose a health risk to consumers.
So while these products are not likely to be found at your local pharmacy, authorities are cautioning residents not to purchase them from websites or from any shop that offers the controversial health supplements.

On its Facebook page, Dubai Municipality said that the banned pills risk the health and safety of the public, and are not licensed by authorities as they contain banned ingredients.
One of the main ingredients in question is sibutramine, and according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it is a controlled substance that was removed from the American market in October 2010 for safety reasons.
“The product poses a threat to consumers because sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and pulse rate in some patients and may present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke,” said the FDA on its website.
“These products may also interact, in life-threatening ways, with other medications a consumer may be taking,” it added.
Residents can call up Dubai Municipality’s hotline number 800900 to verify the registration status of consumer health products.
