Dubai: Members of Dubai’s Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community this week took part in a blood donation drive.

At the Dubai company headquarters of the Al Mufaddal Group, an engineering firm run by a Bohra community member, around 100 people came to donate blood of which 70 were company employees, and 30 members of the wider Bohra community.

The drive was one of the community’s initiatives for the nationwide Year of Giving programme.

Aside from regular blood donations, the community has also taken part in a sparrow saving campaign, tree plantations, and drug rehabilitation.

“It is not harmful for an adult person to donate blood,” said Juzer Mohammad, the firm’s deputy general manager, who also donated blood on the day.

“The body of the donor can regenerate the blood within few days and it poses no threat to the metabolism of the body. Every single donation can save the lives of three to four persons, so it is hoped that many companies will follow the lead.”
