Dubai: The tenth edition of the Beat Diabetes Walk will take place on November 23 at the Dubai Zabeel Park.

Organised by the Landmark Group, the retail and hospitality conglomerate, the walk, over the last decade, has positively influenced thousands of UAE residents by educating them about diabetes and emphasising the need to make healthy lifestyle choices.

The event will witness the return of the SuperKidz, a Landmark Group initiative focusing on encouraging kids to follow healthy lifestyle habits.

“With wellness being a priority for all — individuals, as well as the government — we are very proud to announce the 10th annual Beat Diabetes Walk … This initiative is part of our commitment to the community, a way to bring together families across our network and support them in their search for a healthy lifestyle,” said Renuka Jagtiani, Chairwoman and CEO of the Landmark Group.

In addition to the walk, throughout November, Landmark Group raises funds across outlets in the UAE for Al Jalila Foundation, towards diabetes research, awareness and education, in support of World Diabetes Awareness Month.

To bring Beat Diabetes to the little and most important members of the community, Landmark Group has launched an online SuperKidz creative competition across the GCC and India. The competition has two categories with children from the ages of 4-6 years sending in SuperKidz themed drawings and ages of 7-10 years sending in their Super Stories in English and Arabic, on eating healthy and getting active.

First and second place winners across both categories will walk away with amazing prizes, including a school scholarship, an iPad, an assortment of goodies as well as the chance for their work to be published in the next edition of the SuperKidz comic. Participants can submit their masterpieces through www.superkidz.me and winners will be announced at an award ceremony leading up to the 10th annual Beat Diabetes Walk in the UAE.

With a special SuperKidz award ceremony preluding the walk, this year’s 3-kilometre walk will be led by the winners of the SuperKidz contest and will be followed by an activity filled fun day for the entire family.

Activities at the event will include free blood glucose testing, free Zumba and Yoga by Landmark’s own fitness brand Fitness First, spot fitness challenges and dance routines. Kids will be entertained at a children’s SuperKidz zone, with a DJ and live entertainment creating a carnival atmosphere running through the day.

There will also be SuperKidz mascots, giveaways, a photo booth and lots of inspiration to live a healthier lifestyle.
