Dubai: The website of the Pakistan Consulate General in Dubai has been hacked into; a click on options on the home page menu leads to pornographic sites.

"I was stunned to see links for 'girls' and 'dating' when I tried to get information about educational institutions in Pakistan on the consulate's website www.pakcgdubai.org.ae," said a prominent Pakistani businessman.

He said this shows that no one at the consulate is updating or maintaining the website, which is a window to information on consular services and other information.

An official at the consulate said that they had already complained to Etisalat and the links have been blocked.

Gulf News checked the website and was able to open the home page, which leads to pornographic sites, which are blocked. However, these sites can be viewed outside the UAE.

Sources at the consulate told Gulf News that the website was created in 2000 but was never updated and maintained. "We will soon launch an updated and improved website," he said.

"It is a shame that the website has been abandoned like this while Pakistan is making so much progress in the information technology field," said an IT specialist from Pakistan.

He said the consulate should launch a new website offering online services especially about procedures to get visas, passports, national identity cards and affidavits.
