Dubai: A guitarist with an arm injury will still go ahead and host a non-stop 24-hour concert in Dubai on Friday to help raise funds for poor children across the globe.

Portuguese musician Glenn Perry, 45, plans to play the piano with only his left hand and sing some 350 songs at Stargate in Zabeel Park.

Perry will also go without water, food or sleep during the marathon gig, expected to last from 10am Friday to 10am Saturday [October 16].

Perry said he got injured when debris from a building fell on him during an aftershock in the Caribbean country of Haiti, where he had flown after the earthquake earlier this year that left hundreds of thousands dead.

The free show comes just ahead of World Hunger Day [October 16] and End Poverty Day [October 17].

"It's my way of showing respect to the poor and hungry children — we can eradicate hunger if we didn't waste so much food," said Perry.

Donations from the event will go towards children's welfare projects in African and Nepalese orphanages and slums, he said.

"I'll personally go and give it to them."

WHERE: Stargate, Zabeel Park

WHEN: October 15, 10am-October 16, 10am
