Abu Dhabi: Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the UAE General Women's Union, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Welfare Foundation and Chairperson of the Arab Women Organisation, was yesterday honoured by the United Nations in recognition of her role in the humanitarian field.

Shaikha Fatima received the Mohammad Medal, the highest honour accorded by the UN, at a special ceremony organised by the Zayed University. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Shaikh Nahyan welcomed the international honour, saying Shaikh Fatima, Mother of the Emirates, deserves to be accorded this honour. Shaikha Fatima expressed her gratitude and thanks for the UN's honour, and renewed her pledge to continue her humanitarian role and exerting further efforts to help national women.
