Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Government Enablement has warned against the use of artificial intelligence apps that transform personal photos into cartoon-like images or digital avatars, cautioning that such seemingly harmless entertainment may be compromising users' biometric data.

In a public awareness video posted on its official X account, the department highlighted the hidden risks of uploading personal facial images to AI-powered platforms. “With a single shot, AI can learn every facial detail,” the video warned, adding that once this biometric data is captured, it can be exploited to create fake accounts, carry out fraud, or even generate deepfake videos.

The department stressed that when users submit photos to AI editing tools, they are inadvertently sharing their unique biometric identity, making themselves vulnerable to misuse.

Citizens and residents are urged to protect their privacy by deleting unnecessary applications, erasing uploaded photos from AI platforms, minimising app permissions, and fully restricting access to sensitive data.

The department also encouraged raising awareness among family and friends to collectively reduce the threat of biometric exploitation.
