Abu Dhabi: The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has thanked Germany for exempting UAE citizens from the Schengen visa.

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, expressed his appreciation to the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, especially to the Federal Foreign Minister, H.E. Guido Westerwelle, and H.E. the Federal Minister of Interior, Hans-Peter Friedrich, for the initiative taken towards the European Commission regarding exempting the UAE citizens from the Schengen-visa.

''The Government of the United Arab Emirates highly appreciates this important step, which will facilitate the travelling of the UAE citizens to the Schengen countries as well as promote the relations between the UAE and the Schengen countries in the economic, trade, touristic and cultural areas. Furthermore, this step will strengthen the friendship between the UAE people and the peoples of these countries,'' the statement said.
