Sharjah: In a heartfelt gesture on one of the holiest days of the Islamic calendar, the Sharjah Charity Association distributed 20,000 iftar meals at sunset on the Day of Arafah. The meals were provided to workers and families in need across multiple areas of the emirate, as part of the association’s annual charitable efforts during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah.

Distribution teams were dispatched from the association’s main office in Sharjah city and its branches in Al Bataeh, Al Madam, Al Dhaid, Kalba, Khorfakkan, and Dibba Al Hisn. The coordinated effort aimed to deliver meals simultaneously to as many beneficiaries as possible.

Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, Executive Director of the association, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to spreading joy and sharing blessings with those in need. He emphasised that the meals were carefully prepared to be nutritious and appropriate, underscoring the association’s focus on dignity and compassion in giving.

He also noted that the logistics were meticulously planned to ensure meals were delivered on time and in a manner that respected the recipients’ privacy. Staff and volunteers worked together under the guidance of the association’s local teams to carry out the distribution efficiently.

Bin Khadim highlighted that the iftar distribution is just one element of the association’s broader seasonal programs during Dhul Hijjah. These include supporting Hajj pilgrims, assisting urgent medical cases, distributing Eid clothing, providing meat from Eid sacrifices, and undertaking development projects related to clean water, healthcare, and blindness prevention — both within the UAE and internationally.

“This initiative is about more than just meals — it’s about honoring values of empathy, unity, and support,” bin Khadim said.
