In a thoughtful initiative aimed at safeguarding outdoor workers during the summer, the Positive Spirit Council has launched the ‘Shade and Reward’ campaign to raise awareness among 300 labourers about the risks of heat stress.

As part of the effort, umbrellas were distributed to help protect them from extreme temperatures while travelling between work sites.

The initiative was organised in collaboration with the Police Station Directors’ Council, suburban police points, the General Department of Human Rights at Dubai Police, and the ‘Thank You for Your Giving’ Volunteer Team.

The event took place at Al Eyas Police Point, where participating labourers received not only umbrellas but also vital tips on preventing heatstroke and dehydration. They were reminded of the importance of staying hydrated and adhering to safety practices while working under the sun.

The programme also served to educate workers about their legal rights and the support services available through Dubai Police, with representatives from the General Department of Human Rights engaging directly with attendees.

Among those present were Ms. Fatima Buhajeer, Chairperson of the Positive Spirit Council; Major Hamad Al Shamsi, Head of the Labour Rights Section; First Lieutenant Obaid Al Muhairi; Dr. Aisha Al Falasi, honorary team member; and Mr. Saif Al Rahman Amir, team leader.

Ms. Buhajeer noted that the campaign is part of Dubai Police’s Year of Community initiatives. “It aims to promote social harmony, enhance quality of life, and foster shared responsibility while supporting the values of tolerance and coexistence,” she said.
