Rafah: The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) on Sunday sent an aid convoy carrying food and medical supplies to the Gaza Strip as part of a humanitarian programme implemented in the Palestinian territories.

The convoy of 55 trucks carrying around 800 tonnes of essential food, and two trucks carrying medical supplies, was sent in line with the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to help alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and improve their humanitarian conditions.

The relief operation is being carried out by the RCA in coordination with the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), a Palestinian Presidential Committee, the UAE embassy in Cairo, Egyptian Red Crescent Society and the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The convoy comes within the framework of RCA's strategy in Palestine where charity projects, including dispatch of food and medical aid, sponsorship of underprivileged families and orphans, iftar meal project and construction of residential units, with the support of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and is being closely followed up on by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and RCA Chairman.
