Abu Dhabi: The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) implemented a humanitarian and developmental programmme in Sudan at a cost of Dh130.7 million between 1993 and 2012.

Naeema Al Muhairi, Deputy Secretary General of RCA for Relief and Projects, said that for the past 20 years, the authority has been boosting its humanitarian and relief efforts in several Sudanese areas, which were affected by floods, armed conflicts, drought and famine.

She said that most aid programmes in Sudan are provided by RCA through the Embassy of the UAE in Khartoum and in cooperation with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and other local charitable societies.

She added that the number of orphans in Sudan being sponsored by the RCA was 4,752 and the value of what has been spent till December 2012 is around Dh30.8 million in addition to the implementation of construction projects such as mosques, digging wells, drinking water, building clinics, schools, orphanages and other infrastructure.
