President instructs building of dam at Sharm Valley in Fujairah
Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has instructed that a dam be built at Sharm Valley in Fujairah after heavy rains flooded towns and villages at the Eastern Coast, and causing sand barriers protecting houses at the mouth of the mountains to collapse.
This was announced by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, whose ministry was ordered by the President to carry out the project.
Shaikh Hamdan directed planners at his ministry to speed up the design of the dam at par with international architectural specifications.
"A study will be conducted to identify the need of mountainous areas from these water projects to mitigate material damages inhabitants of these areas could sustain," the minister said.
