Dubai: Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, visited a construction site in Dubai to review preparations for the implementation of the ‘Midday Break’, which takes effect on Sunday, 15 June 2025. The regulation prohibits outdoor work under direct sunlight from 12:30pm to 3:00pm daily, continuing until 15 September 2025.

Joined by several senior ministry officials, Dr. Al Awar received a comprehensive briefing from Tariq Khansaheb, Chairman of Khansaheb Civil Engineering, on the company’s sustainability efforts and measures to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards. These include shaded rest areas equipped with cooling systems and cold water, prioritising workers’ health, comfort, and well-being during the ‘Midday Break’.

Dr. Al Awar commended the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and praised the vital role of private sector companies in enhancing the competitiveness and leadership of the national labour market.

The field visit also included representatives from Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Aster DM Healthcare, and the National Food Product Company (NFPC). These entities distributed gifts and refreshments to workers, conducted medical check-ups, and raised awareness about preventing heat exhaustion.

Now in its 21st consecutive year, the ‘Midday Break’ reflects the UAE’s ongoing commitment to a safe and sustainable working environment, aligned with international occupational health and safety standards. The initiative aims to prevent heat-related injuries during the intense summer months.

The regulation requires employers to provide shaded areas, adequate cooling equipment, sufficient drinking water, first-aid supplies, and other essential comfort facilities to protect workers from heat stress.

Community members can report violations or unsafe practices during the ‘Midday Break’ by contacting the MoHRE call center at 600590000, or via the ministry’s website or smart app.
