Moscow: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Thursday held a meeting with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.

During the meeting held at the Kremlin, Shaikh Mohammad and Putin discussed friendly ties and cooperation between the two countries. They also tackled regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Shaikh Mohammad expressed his happiness at meeting with Putin to further bolster bilateral relations and discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern.

“We hope to boost trade between the UAE and Russia, and we will be discussing the best ways that serve and strengthen this approach. It is also a pleasure to be discussing issues in the Middle East with Russia, a country which plays a strong and key role in the region. We hope to further bolster our relations to make the Middle East more stable and secure,” said Shaikh Mohammad.

Putin described UAE-Russia relations as important, and that work is being carried out to boost these relations to the highest levels. “There is a joint UAE-Russia committee that is working on bolstering bilateral economic relations, and I strongly believe that the committee will have positive contributions to UAE-Russia relations. Naturally, cooperation in the field of investment is important to Russia, and I am well aware that there are many promising plans in this field,” said Putin.

Shaikh Mohammad expressed his profound sadness on the flydubai jet crash at Rostov-on-Don airport. Shaikh Mohammad conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Putin, the people of Russia and families of the victims.

Shaikh Mohammad and Putin discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them in light of the growing friendly and cooperation ties between the two countries.

They spoke about strengthening current levels of cooperation in the economic, investment and trade sectors for the mutual benefit of both nations and their peoples and to achieve the aspirations of nations’ leaders in expanding avenues of relations and future economic partnerships.

Shaikh Mohammad and Putin also discussed a number of regional and international issues, particularly the Syrian crisis, ways to combat terrorist organisations and developments in the Middle East.

Both leaders stressed their keenness to hold regular consultations on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

They also reaffirmed the importance of doubling international efforts to combat terrorism to prevent this threat from spreading and expanding.

The leaders said that terrorism is a global threat that targets everyone, pointing out the bombings that recently took place in Brussels which lead to the death of innocent civilians.

Shaikh Mohammad and Putin condemned the terrorist attack, and emphasised the importance of cooperation and solidarity to combat and eliminate terrorism. They expressed their condolences to the government and people of Belgium, and wished a speedy recovery for those injured during the attack.

Present during the meeting were Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, and other officials

Shaikh Mohammad on Thursday also received in Moscow US Secretary of State John Kerry.

During the meeting, Shaikh Mohammad and Kerry spoke about a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly the Syrian crisis. They discussed efforts exerted on the regional and international level to resolve the crisis, as well as the progress of ongoing negotiations.

The talks also touched on UAE and US’s efforts as part of the Global Coalition to combat extremism and terrorism. They stressed the importance of exerting all efforts for consolidating foundations of security and stability in the region and around the world.

Shaikh Mohammad and Kerry spoke about bilateral relations, and ways to bolster them for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.
