Mohammad amends social allowance system

Social allowance system amended to suport working women in the UAE

Last updated:

Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday issued a resolution amending the social allowance system.

The social allowance will now cover women employed in a government or federal body who are divorced, or are the only income source for a family in case their husband is unemployed, unable to earn a living, or is deceased.

The decision aims at supporting working women, taking into consideration this category of employees and providing financial support for their family.

It also stipulates that documents issued from an official health body need to be presented to prove the husband's inability to work, while a husband's unemployed status should be declared in writing by the working wife, which must state that the husband is not currently employed in any federal or government body, a private sector company, or any international organisation in and outside the UAE.

The social allowance will be paid for from the concerned ministry or federal body's annual budget.
