Dubai: Officials should work hard to apply the fourth generation of the government excellence system, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said on Tuesday at the 19th edition of the Government Excellence Programme (DGEP) Awards in Dubai.

The fourth generation of government excellence system launched last year aims at improving efficiency.

On Tuesday, Shaikh Mohammad honoured distinguished government employees and departments during an award ceremony in the presence of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

During the ceremony, Shaikh Mohammad said some officials are slacking this year and have not achieved positive results. They stopped working hard, believing that they have reached the top, which is a misconception.

He said that starting from today and until next year’s DGEP, these officials have to work hard and diligently to implement the fourth generation of the government excellence system, which is currently being used in the federal government.

Shaikh Mohammad ordered the general coordinator of the programme to take the necessary executive measures to implement his directives. The annual awards recognise and rewards exceptional government employees, departments and initiatives.

Following the award ceremony, Shaikh Mohammad tweeted that excellence programmes have “become part of our culture, a powerful driving force for development and a key factor for change towards a better tomorrow for all government departments”. He congratulated the winners and leaders of change.

“DGEP will mark its 20th anniversary next year. We have ordered all Dubai departments to make the transition from excellence programmes to the fourth generation in preparation for the next phase of government work,” he tweeted.
