Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, said a federal law to regularise guided tours will soon be issued to increase the presence of Emiratis in this sector and other areas of the tourism and hotel industry.

Shaikh Nahyan admitted the poor presence of citizens in the guided tour sector, tourism and the private sector in general.

Shaikh Nahyan said that there is a manual on tourist guiding and techniques of providing assistance, information and cultural, historical and contemporary heritage interpretation to people on organised tours and individual clients at educational establishments, religious and historical sites, museums, and at other venues of significant interest.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has laid out a road map for Emiratisation of the private sector saying in the next seven years, the UAE will go through a great journey that will bring change and fast evolvement to achieve its objectives.

Musabeh Al Katbi, a member from Sharjah, said UAE citizens account for only two per cent out of 383,500 jobs in the tourism sector, and 60 per cent of Emiratis have resigned from their jobs in the important industry.

Shaikh Nahyan vowed that once the law is issued, the condition of Emiratis in the tourism industry will improve.
