Dubai Police deny traffic fine discount report

Report on social media showed a screenshot of a news item published by Gulf News in 2011

Dubai: Dubai Police denied a report circulating on social media on Monday claiming that the police and Roads and Transport Authority are offering 50 per cent discounts on traffic fines until National Day.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai Traffic Police, said this is not true and people should stop spreading the rumour.

The rumour was accompanied by a screenshot of a Gulf News article titled “Motorists in Dubai to get discounts on fines” and it shows that the screenshot was taken on November 21.

However, the screenshot fails to show that the report was published on July 29, 2011.

Dubai Police have said multiple times in the past that they have stopped the practice of offering discounts on traffic fines.
