Dubai: Dubai Municipality has been named the United Arab Emirates Country Winner at the 2025 International Safety Awards by the British Safety Council, one of the world’s most respected accolades in occupational health and safety.

The award recognises global leaders in creating safe, healthy, and sustainable workplaces. Selected from hundreds of entries worldwide — including from the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East — Dubai Municipality is one of only 10 organisations globally to receive the exclusive Country Winner title this year.

The win cements its reputation as a regional leader in occupational safety.

Driving Dubai’s vision for global excellence

Dr Naseem Mohammed Rafee, CEO of the Environment, Health, and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the award reflects the Municipality’s steadfast dedication to embedding a preventive safety culture and mitigating risks through globally recognised standards.

“This achievement aligns with our mission to position Dubai as a world-class city for health, safety, and liveability,” Dr Rafee said. “It underscores our commitment to sustainability and innovation across our occupational safety systems.”

Pioneering safety through innovation

Dubai Municipality’s award-winning approach included the implementation of forward-thinking health and safety policies, international certifications, and the integration of smart technologies to reduce risk and enhance employee wellbeing.

Efforts to lower workplace incidents, promote safety education, and invest in continuous training played a vital role in securing the award.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to cultivate a robust safety culture across all operations — reinforcing Dubai’s global standing as a city of innovation and excellence in urban management.
