Dubai: Members of Dubai Police’s Maritime unit rescued an Indian man from drowning near Burj Al Arab on Sunday.
In another incident, the department also rescued a cargo boat in Dubai Creek and pulled out a 4x4 car that had fallen into the sea at Jumeirah’s Fishing docks.
Major Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi, Head of the Maritime Rescue Department at the Department of Transport and Rescue of Dubai Police, said the Indian man was rescued within minutes by the patrol that was circling the area.
Dubai police lifeguards managed to get to him before he sank to the bottom, he said, and took him to the shore where were paramedics from an ambulance performed first aid, and rushed him to Rashid Hospital for treatment.
In the Dubai Creek incident, a French man lost control of his 4x4 vehicle while he was launching his boat off the trailer into the sea, and the vehicle rolled into the sea along with the boat.
The car was completely submerged, and teams from Dubai Police’s Maritime rescue had to retrieve it. No one was injured.
As for the cargo boat, it had been run aground and listed in Dubai Creek because of excess load. Maj Al Naqbi said that Dubai Customs had refused to let the boat pass and asked them to unload the excess. Instead of using the designated area for unloading, he said, the boat returned to the course of the creek, where it ran aground.
Maritime rescue teams rushed to the scene, and used a bigger boat to unload the excess load and tow the boat.
