Dubai: A fine of Dh2,000 will be slapped on salons using skin-burning black henna and unapproved products, the Dubai Municipality warned on Wednesday.

Salon staff were also warned against providing home services and using harmful substances.

The Public Health and Safety Department under the municipality posted notices at salons and women's beauty centers, in which the civic body warned salon staff about the consequences of providing home care services and using substances that cause burns to the skin, including black henna.

The municipality said it also has inspection teams to monitor women's salons and all consumer products inside the salons.

Fine, shutdown

"If beauty centers use black henna or any unapproved products, the products will immediately be withdrawn and a fine of Dh2,000 will be issued. If the action is repeated, the beauty center will be closed temporarily," the warning read.

The public health and safety inspectors had also confiscated 69 toys that do not conform to specifications.

Some of them contain carcinogens and heavy toxic elements that are harmful for children, officials said.
