The legislative body for Abu Dhabi Emirate policy-making was established by late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in his capacity as Ruler of the emirate in 1971 to give citizens the right to participate in the making and amending of policies that directly affect their lives through the local parliament.
The council is represented by various tribes of the emirate to represent their people in the legislative process of the country.
