Abu Dhabi: Unifying efforts of government and private institutions and encouraging national initiatives to enhance Emiratisation and promote education are set to be the main goals of the Cabinet.

At a meeting chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sunday the Cabinet approved a 10-point education agenda to be implemented by the Cabinet until 2020.

The strategy of the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) for 2011-2013 was also endorsed.

Prior to its endorsement by the Cabinet, Shaikh Mohammad posted the strategy on his website to gauge public opinion. The site recorded more than 27,000 hits, and many ideas were proposed on matters related to school curriculums, capabilities of the educational authorities, pupil and school evaluation, and national identity. Prior to attaining final approval, a team was formed to revise the education agenda in cooperation with the Cabinet.

Meanwhile, the new Emiratisation strategy includes annual training programmes aimed at reducing unemployment and enhancing the number of Emiratis working in the private sector. It includes developing a comprehensive Emiratisation database for the UAE.

Emiratisation and education are considered key priorities in the work of the UAE government, and are a national responsibility that requires all involved parties to increase and unify their efforts in carrying out national initiatives to meet the aspirations of the UAE people in those fields, said His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

This came during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Shaikh Mohammad at the Presidential Palace. Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, were present.

Shaikh Mohammad approved the education agenda until 2020, as well as the strategy of the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) for 2011-2013.

The education agenda approved by the Cabinet revolves around five aspects. The first is to improve the school environment and providing equal education opportunities for all students, in addition to strengthening patriotism in students and enhancing the administrative operations of the Ministry of Education.

The agenda also includes 10 key objectives and initiatives for their implementation. The initiatives include plans to close the gap between private and public education, streamlining education, as well as improving the teaching profession and developing technical systems for schools and education zones.

The Cabinet also approved Tanmia's 2011-2013 strategy, in accordance with the mandate issued by the Cabinet to complement the government's new directives regarding the Tanmia's role in dealing with national issues, and empowering national human resources to allow their pratical participation in the job market.

Emiratisation database

The strategy includes new objectives for employees and annually trained trainees to reduce unemployment and the number of Emiratis working in the private sector. It includes developing a comprehensive emiratisation database for the UAE, and providing accurate and regular information to decision-makers on the emiratisation rate in all sectors.

The strategy also contains a number of initiatives to increase the community's participation in issues related to emiratisation, increasing competitiveness among national human resources, and ensuring the integration of all policies related to emiratisation.
