The UAE called this a serious violation of the mosque’s historical and legal status quo
The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned Israel’s plan to transfer control of the Ibrahimi Mosque from the Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and Hebron Municipality to the Jewish Religious Council in the Kiryat Arba settlement. The UAE called this a serious violation of the mosque’s historical and legal status quo.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) stressed the need to respect the status quo at all holy sites and urged an immediate halt to unilateral and provocative actions that threaten to destabilise the occupied Palestinian territories and hinder international efforts to de-escalate tensions.
The UAE also called on the international community to fulfil its responsibility in protecting the holy sites and preserving their religious and historical significance.
The Ministry highlighted the importance of supporting all regional and international initiatives that promote the Middle East peace process and end illegal measures undermining the two-state solution.
