Abu Dhabi: No parades will be held for National Day in the capital except for the official Yas Island parade on December 3, the Ministry of Interior said.

Officials urged motorists to abide by the law on vehicle decoration and observe traffic rules for National Day.

Violators’ vehicles will be impounded.

Abu Dhabi Police will increase patrols in the city, Al Ain and the Western Region in addition to surveillance in locations where celebrations will be held, monitoring the follow of traffic through cameras and radars.

Other National Day events taking place on Al Maryah Island, Hazaa Bin Zayed Stadium, Zayed Sports City and other public parks in the city will be covered under a comprehensive plan set up by authorities to ensure that all participants remain safe.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate has come up with a comprehensive plan, in collaboration with the Department of Transport, which will prevent vehicles from entering the Zayed Sports City and instead allow individuals to do so through assembly points in Al Shahama and Yas Island, where buses will be provided for transport.

“As per the Federal Traffic Law and regulations … violators will be subject to penalties, which may result in the impounding of the driver’s vehicle for up to one month; 12-24 black traffic points in some violations, with a fine ranging from Dh500 to Dh3,000; and any additional penalties that may apply to those who violate National Day car decoration guidelines,” police said in a statement.

Vehicle decorations are permitted until December 6 and authorities will be strict in apprehending violators.

Activities prohibited during the holidays, police said, include blacking out side and rear windows of vehicles, exceeding the number of permitted passengers in a vehicle and individuals leaning out of windows, sunroofs, trunks or any other part of the car.
