Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Police has added the Lykan Hypersport supercar to its fleet as part of its efforts to reach out to residents, especially the youth, on traffic safety.

The Dh12.8-million ($3.4 million) Lebanese vehicle is one of only seven in the world and will be displayed at touristic locations and malls across the capital soon, the police announced.

Captain Ahmad Abdullah Al Muhairi, Head of Traffic Safety Section at the Traffic Engineering and Safety Department in the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police, said that the Lykan represents a unique way of creating awareness by staying up to date with sports, cultural and sociel activities.T

The Lykan was the most expensive car to be used in the Fast and Furious franchise to date. Furious 7, which features chaotic chases and over-the-top stunts, was shot in part in Abu Dhabi.

Al Muhairi also added that the purpose of displaying the vehicle is to attract youngsters to send a message to families and all sectors of the community in a bid to raise awareness about the dangers of flouting traffic rules and to encourage them to cooperate with the police to limit accidents.

Recently, the police had also displayed a Rolls-Royce vehicle in several malls and during the GCC Traffic Week in addition to two Chevrolet Camaros and a GTS-R alongside a Harley-Davidson Polaris bike.

The police revealed enrolment of Emiratis into the mandatory military programme has contributed in reducing the total number of road accidents across the capital by 42 per cent during the first quarter of this year in comparison to the same period last year.

The 18-30 age group accounts for a little under half of all road incidents, according to previous Gulf News reports.
