Seven year-old girl survives fall from the top floor of a Sharjah building
Dubai: A seven year-old Egyptian girl has miraculously survived after falling from a window on the top floor of a six-storey residential building in Sharjah's Nabbah area late night on Thursday.
The girl, identified as Dunia, suffered fractures on both her hands and is now recuperating at Al Qasimi Hospital.
"Alhamdolillah, [thank God] she is alright. It's a miracle. I can't thank God enough for saving her life," said her father.
The incident took place around 9.45 pm at the Yusuf Al Maskari building behind Al Mubarak Centre.
An Indian shopkeeper who was among the first to come to the child's rescue, is still in disbelief.
"My heart was in my mouth. I was dreading the worst but before I could help her she got up on her own. She was shivering and writhing her hands but looked completely unscathed. She was not even crying. I have never seen anything more incredible," he said.
Warned about danger
The building watchman Mohammad Nurul Anwar, 30, said he heard a commotion and rushed out. "A huge crowd had gathered around the girl. She looked dazed and kept staring at her hands. Soon an ambulance came and she was taken away to the hospital."
Anwar said the girl had been warned against leaning out of the window in the past. "I had reprimanded her several times but she would never listen. I had warned her parents too," said Anwar, pointing to a spot in the sandy parking area where the girl fell.
He said the child's parents were not at home at the time of the incident. "She was alone in the one bedroom apartment with her two younger sisters," he said.
