Costs falls by Dh7-Dh17, depending on cylinder size, in northern emirates
Abu Dhabi: Prices have fallen of refillable gas cylinders at petrol stations in the northern emirates run by the Abu Dhabi oil company Adnoc.
Adnoc Distribution said it was reducing prices for refilling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at its service stations in Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain with effect from January 10.
Adnoc Distribution reduced the price of cylinders of 25lbs capacity to Dh54 from the previous marked retail price of Dh61.
The company has also reduced the price of refilling 50lbs cylinders — available only at Riffa station in Dibba-Fujairah — to Dh105, down from Dh122.
Khalid Hadi, vice-president of marketing and corporate communications at Adnoc Distribution, said: “The price reduction came in line with the lower prices of global gas production, where prices are subject to change according to the change of global gas prices.”
He added: “Adnoc Distribution is seeking to develop its services and capacities in line with the growing demand for LPG cylinders, and aims to make life more convenient for our customers by passing on reduced prices to them.”
Adnoc Distribution currently provides more than 3,000 subsidised 25lbs gas cylinders daily at its service stations in Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
Holders of the Rahal ‘E-Gas’ cards in the northern emirates are authorised to receive subsidised gas cylinders. Rahal ‘E-Gas’ is issued free of cost by the company at its offices in Sharjah or at select Adnoc service stations across the UAE.
However, UAE distributors had hiked gas cylinder prices in December 2013. The increase ranged between Dh10-Dh40, depending on the cylinder capacity.
Prices were increased across the board by suppliers, including Emarat and EMGAS as well as Sharjah distributors.
EMGAS, a subsidiary of Enoc and one of the leading manufacturers of LPG cylinders, had said the hike followed a steep rise in the international price for LPG.
“While we have been absorbing the increase we are now forced to revise the price for the long-term viability of our operations. We will continuously monitor and revise the prices of the LPG cylinders, and will strive to pass on any cost efficiencies to our customers, based on the international price trends,” EMGAS said.
It is the second price revision in the last two years.
