Dubai For the first time in the history of the UAE, a state-of-the-art three-dimensional full-dome theatre will be installed inside the planetarium at Children's City in Creek Park.

Makiya Al Hajri, Head of the Children's City - an exclusive Dh77 million edutainment facility for children - said works have begun for installing the system and is expected to be completed by the end of next month.

“The new system, tailored to suit the planetarium's needs, is designed to produce a graphically stunning display with high levels of brightness and resolution for all shows at the Planetarium. We have sought the help of London-based Global Immersion to provide us with the right solution,'' said Al Hajri.

She added that the new system, with its six-channel projection design covering a screen area of 288 square metres, will reinforce displayed educational messages in the minds of children and students.

“The shows will be accompanied by live educational workshops,'' Al Hajri added.

Engineer Wissam Al Mufti, who supervises the expansion project at the planetarium, said superior quality and high performance levels were the main criteria in choosing this advanced display technology.

“Full-dome theatre technology is a new trend among the planetarium and astronomy community worldwide. At Children's City, we want to offer the young generation the very best in edutainment facilities,'' he said.
