A flute band of scouts and guides wowed crowds for an hour at the Global Village last night. The 45 young musicians, who are all aged between seven and 16, played for 30 minutes on the popular venue's main stage. At the request of the crowds and organisers, an impromptu 25 minute circuit of the village then ensued.

The band, which formed just three months ago, is made up of guides and scouts from the Aga Khan group, and includes a varied mix of nationalities. So far it has played at this year's Terry Fox Run, and also performed at the Clean-Up Dubai drive last month.

Sameer Noor Ali, group leader for the band, said he was delighted at the response from the Global Village crowds. "The band is very new and this is only our third public appearance,"he said.

"A flute band is made up of flutes, cymbals and drums, and we played all the favourites including the Welcome Song, the Prince March and the Four Star March. "It really meant a lot to the children to have such an enthusiastic crowd watching them and it's definitely been a night they'll remember," he added.
