Floating waste captures in Dubai Creek
Marine Agency at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is conducting an extensive study to undertake a project of installing floating waste captures in Dubai Creek.
Engineer Khalid Al Zahed, director of Marine Projects Department at RTA Marine Agency, said the Agency is conducting this study with an aim to collect all wastes in a single place and disposing of them by means of a net made of stainless light materials.
The system will save effort and time and add an aesthetic look worthy of metropolitan Dubai. Dubai has grown into a preferred destination for tourists and the Creek and surroundings are shaping into a premier maritime tourist attraction, he added.
“Marine Agency is coordinating with one of the leading local companies to manufacture these captures which measure 7x3 metres i.e. the total area of floating waste trap is 21 square metres. Work is in hand to provide one trap shortly to be installed in the vicinity of an abra/water bus station in the Creek. The project will encompass all existing stations of abras/water bus in addition to any stations to be established in future, as part of a time plan developed for this end,'' said Al Zahed.
He added that manufacturing of the initial trap would require 30 -45 days from the date of commencing manufacturing. Collection of floating waste from captures is being coordinated with the department concerned with cleaning of Dubai Creek at Dubai Municipality.
