Dubai: A group of Emirates Living residents has developed the first ever community app in the UAE.

My Small Community application, built at a cost of over a million dirhams, currently covers residents in Emirates Living, Jumeirah Park and Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), and has already had over 4,000 downloads.

The app has features dedicated to community groups, events, directory listing of various services offered in and around the area. “If you are looking for a plumber in an area, all you have to do is look under directory - maintenance and plumber and you will find a list of names. You can post a review of their service for the benefit of other users,” said French expat Sandrine Piedras, a Springs 10 resident and co-founder of the app.

Connecting people

“Users can access the application via their Facebook account. The app will help residents stay connected even as they move homes,” she said.

The app also allows one to filter their neighbours based on common interests. “So if you want to play basketball or tennis, just type these words in the search bar and you will find a list of residents with similar hobbies,” she said.

There is a classified section too.

“Besides being an information provider for residents, we are also a solution for cafés, restaurants, nail bars in the area as we connect them to people living in the vicinity,” she said, adding that she is not looking for revenues from the app at the moment.
