Mall remained open as minor fire put out in 10 minutes
Sharjah: A minor fire has erupted at Sharjah's Sahara Centre but was quickly put out on Friday.
The fire, which began at 12.24pm, was brought under control after it was reported to Civil Defence. Firefighters stationed behind the centre moved to the site and control it in within 10 minutes, according to an official.
Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, Director of Sharjah Civil Defence, said the fire started in the stove of one of the resturants.
The official said no casualties were reported and the incident was minor.
The centre was not evacuated — only the area where the fire started was evacuated. No one was injured in the incident, he said.
However, staff and customers at the affected restaurant as well as neighbouring shops were evacuated.
On April 22, a fire also broke out in the food court of Sahara Center.
No one was injured in that fire, which started in the chimney of one of the restaurants, but the mall was evacuated as a precaution.
