Fire erupted on mezzanine floor of building and damaged 10 vehicles parked near adjacent building
Abu Dhabi: A fire broke out in one of the residential buildings in Khalidiya today, resulting in 15 people sustaining injuries.
The fire erupted on the mezzanine floor and damaged 10 vehicles that were parked outside on the street. A few shops were also damaged. Residents suffered moderate injuries, including smoke inhalation, and were taken to hospital.
A member of the Civil Defence team was also injured while extinguishing the fire.
First aid and medical care were provided on the scene by the Civil Defence, who also received support from members of Emirates Red Crescent.
Major General Jasem Al Marzouqi, Commander-in-Chief of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence; Colonel Maktoum Al Sharifi, director of the Capital Police Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Amir Al Muhairi, director-general of police operations at Abu Dhabi Police; and Lt Colonel Mohammad Abdul Jaleel Al Ansari, director-general of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, took immediate control of the situation and the evacuation process after the fire was reported at noon.
The Civil Defence urged the public to adhere to safety regulations in residential and commercial buildings.
The cause of fire is under investigation.
