What the UAE law says on trade in endangered species

Certain specimens of animal species bred in captivity may not be exported for commercial purposes

UAE Federal Law 11 for 2002 on Regulating and Controlling International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora:

Article 11: Permits and certificates are personal and may not be transferred to a person other than the one named on the document

Article 13: Specimens of animal species in [CITES] Appendix 1 bred in captivity, may not be exported for commercial purposes unless they originate from a registered breeding operation

Article 18: All persons carrying out any activity in scope of the provisions of the law must be registered with a management authority

Article 25: Any person who imports, exports, re-exports, or introduces from the sea or attempts any of the above, any species listed in Appendix 1 without a permit … shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months and/or a fine of not less than Dh10,000 and not exceeding Dh 50,000.

Article 26: Any person who imports, exports, re-exports, or introduces from the sea or attempts any of the above, any species listed in Appendix 2 and 3 without a permit … shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months and/or a fine of not less than Dh5,000 and not exceeding Dh 30,000.

Article 27: Any person having in their possession or under their control, or sold, or offered for sale or displayed to the public, any specimen from the Appendices without carrying registration … shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, and/or a fine of not less Dh5,000 and not exceeding Dh, 30,000
