When Gulf News reader Lej Soyar and his wife were walking along Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon one afternoon, they were greeted by the sight of rubbish and dead fish. Soyar urged the community to be more considerate towards the environment.

He said: “We are law-abiding residents in every other way, so why
can’t we take care of the environment too? We are destroying our surroundings by not being concerned for our planet and throwing our garbage wherever we like.”

According to the community reporter, stricter fines by the authorities would help reduce the disastrous habit of littering.
